Australian police to help tackle crime in png images

Police are to provide "advice and guidance" to organisations that are "piling together png images of crime scenes", as the Police National Computer (PNC) attempts to tackle crimes in the online world.

The initiative will be led by the PSNI and the PNC, the joint venture of the UK and US, which is run by the Home Office.

It will see PSNI officers assist the PNC and their partners by working with those involved in png images, sharing intelligence, assisting the investigation team when necessary.

The goal is to help reduce the number of images that end up on websites that have been hijacked to facilitate crime.

In January this year, PSNI Chief Constable Ian Blair unveiled plans for a £40m dedicated cybercrime unit for the UK.

This included funding £12m to "provide advice and guidance to organisations that are 'piling together' png images of crime scenes" and £13m for a unit "dedicated to combating cybercrime"

The launch of "cybercrime advice and consultation" was welcomed by the director of the PSNI's digital policing unit, Chris Hopkin.

He said he was convinced the new role was "absolutely right for the PSNI" and welcomed the move.

"These services are vital to stopping cybercrime. We will support police in this, helping them in their ongoing efforts to clamp down on crime using cyber technology," he told the News and Observer.

"I am absolutely delighted at the PSNI's announcement to create a new digital crime unit, and I look forward to seeing what work they are able to provide to their colleagues through this exercise."

Airport told to resolve driver dispute quickly after arriving at scene

It was the second confrontation between a plane and a passenger at Orlando International Airport this year. A flight departing from Boston to Las Vegas, Naticrova's flight from Houston to Orlando, was forced to leave when an armed gunman confronted an airport security guard at about 6 p.m. Friday and fired into the aircraft before he was apprehended and taken into custody.

In that case, the pilot was able to successfully land his aircraft safely, and no injuries were reported.

The latest airport confrontation began when a passenger aboard the departing jet made eye contact with an airport security officer in a security checkpoint at about 5:15 p.m. this Saturday. The passenger then noticed the passenger's right side.

"That's when I felt somebody grabbing my backside and grabbing me and making me go back into the terminal area," he said. "He was pushing me up against the side of the terminal and kind of pushing me through the door."
